Great article, Dave. Loved your running the gamut from comedy to tragedy and taking your lumps. All success is built upon failures and stupid mistakes. I have sure had mine.

We were pretty hard on those late 70's card... sorry Bro. 😢

Hahaha no worries, i got more enjoyment out of those cards than if they sat in a box untouched for five decades!

I've got you beat - bought an '86 Fleer basketball complete set in 1989 or early 1990. Sold it the next year for $400, sure it had hit a ceiling. Used the $$$ to buy graphic design tools (t-squares, mechanical pens, markers, etc.) for college that were worthless by the time I graduated in '94.

OUCH! We are certainly brothers in arms, my friend. That's brutal. Have you started piecing that set back together? Sounds like a fun lifetime project!

Really interesting and insightful to hear the regret stories. And don’t be too hard on yourself, David, we all have many of them. Very funny about shooting the Star Wars figures and hiding from the ricochet. Do you still consider yourself a fan? The original trilogy will always be my favorite movies. I had Return of the Jedi toys/figures as a kid. My dad (with my assistance, in the last few years, has actually decided to try to complete the raw Star Wars figure run from the original films.

The Jordan one stung for me, as I’ve never had a chance to own one. However, sounds like you had a great cause, and I saw many intelligent collectors slinging everything in a slab during the pandemic’s all time highs. I look forward to the day when you can get your Jordan back.

I think the idea about doing a column on 11 wins would be cool too.

And thanks to Patrick for helping me be informed of some prospects I had no idea about.

Great read, thanks for sharing!

Thanks, Scott! Much appreciated. It was therapeutic to write it all out, hahaha! I do still like Star Wars, definitely the older stuff more, and really, the first two. Trying to collect all the original Star Wars figures, that's awesome! What's that checklist like? 50 pieces? 100?

That Jordan card. Yep. That one still hurts. I'll have to be completely out of debt (sans mortgage and car payment) before I ever think about getting another Jordan. And I'll likely just buy a PSA 5 if it looks OK.

I'll start thinking about my 11 wins! That could be therapeutic, too!

I believe there’s around 80 just from the original 3 films we were trying to get. He probably has about half of them.

Yeah, the wins will be fun to read about, for sure. It all evens out, my friend.
