These are great helps, timing is so key, wemby is the greatest example. His prizm base ungraded was going way over 100 for awhile which can now be had for 30 bucks and PSA 10s go for as low as 80 regularly, i do plan on adding one. He’s been exceptional but there is so much early product hype it eventually goes down by year 2, now i think his stuff goes back up eventually if he continues his play but you can save so much by correct timing.
Ripping packs is the utmost fun but rarely does it return the box price in value. How and what i buy has changed although we rip on our channel as our main videos often its outdated boxes. Meaning not the newest release pf every product and def not higher end. We have found certain things we like and we rip those other stuff if we can find discounted we will do those.
Ripping will never ever lose the joy it brings. I just finished reading the book Atomic Habits and it would appear that we actually get the most joy and endorphin release just before we open the pack up. It is funny, and I have noticed it myself, but sometimes even when you get one of the top cards from a pack, there is often times a let down when you are all done. I cant explain it but I have noticed it.
your are right, there are honestly few boxes off we have opened where we stay that excited afterwards, i think when you can not only pull a big card but win the box value wise its makes the rip so memorable. Now the problem is thats so few anymore you can do that. Even micah has recently noticed with some of his basketball boxes they are kinda duds
That is understandable. He went on that crazy run of pulling Wemby's in a bunch of boxes and now he is back to the more "standard" boxes. That is frustrating as it can turn people off to the hobby. I think the key is diversity, in the fact that maybe he gets a box one month and then the next month, the box money goes to a picked out single(s) to ensure their is a solid hit to keep the excitement up.
Awesome content this week as always!!! Great tips from Mr. Collect on here, tips that I am trying harder than ever to live by. As mentioned already, timing can be everything, however, it is also the hardest thing to predict. One thing I have kind of noticed (at least I think this is the case) is that Bowman 1st cards will seem to peak and stay high until the players gets there first flagship rookie card from Topps, then it appears collectors have a new shiny toy to get and Bowman 1st prices will drop. Although I dont collect basketball cards, seems to be a similar trend with how Panini releases the Prizm set last. Collectors want the first available RC and then when Prizm releases, the earlier sets rookies can be found for a lot cheaper. One other tidbit is with bulk grading. If you have other collector friends local with you, one option is to make a combined order to lower costs on shipping.

These tips are valuable to the hobby and collectors.

Really nice article, Mr. Collect. Especially enjoy the “Bringing it All Together” section, well said!

Great observation about purchasing Bowman 1st’s, Patrick, very smart.
