Great article Randy! I didnt know these existed and the photo shows Lew Burdette! This is one of my PC players, he’s a relative, never got to meet him but I’m on ebay looking to add this to my pc!
It just happened that stamp was on top of the stack when I took the photo of the box. Do you want the exhibits card with him pitching from side view and the stamp? Send me your address in the HH chat group.
Its distant but on my dads side its my great great grandmothers brothers son. He was from Nitro, WV. I have not completed his run of cards but have a majority of them, some autos and relics. His grandson also played in MLB Nolan Fontana played with trout and Shohei on the angels, i got some of his stuff as well. I know lew has some non bowman topps cards especially in 50s. Spic and span johnston cookies and that exhibit maybe has multiple years of them pretty neat.
Great job on this guys!!! Love the education on the stamps, never knew about them, but now it makes sense in that I have a few pins somewhere from my childhood that were of stamps of famous players. They are metal pins that you could put on something I guess. Hard to hear about the cards being tosses, but at least the Maz cards survived.
David, gotta ask, was that Griffey Jr. trade an actual trade with your brother? It sounds like it may have been.
Hahaha, no that trade was just a made-up one. The only trade I really did with my brothers is them moving out, and me just owning all their cards. Fair deal! hahaha
Wow, really enjoyable read. Great story about the Topps Stamps, Randy! By the way, you hit the nail on the head about everyone’s cards being thrown out, my dad says his mom threw his cards out, and that there were “Mickey Mantle’s.” Ugh.
Anyway, I’ve seen them through the years, but wasn’t all that familiar. They look really nice full color in a PSA slab!
David, very cool piece about Betts, absolutely love the line, “receipt for baseball’s biggest heist,” haha. Well done, fellas.

When I posted that picture in there, I thought, "Josh is going to like this!" haha
If substack has a hype horn 😂
a relative, really? I think I have an Exhibits 4x6 B&W card of him as well.
