⚾LESSONS LEARNED AT THE NATIONAL SPORTS CARD CONVENTION

Josh Scarberry of MJ Family Time Cards took his family, including his card-collecting son Micah, to The National Sports Card Convention in Cleveland a couple weeks ago.

First, he shared how he prepared to go to the convention, and in this podcast, he’s sharing all the new things he learned, which he hopes will help him – and others – for the next time he goes!

He talked about the freebies and all the cool corporate stuff that was handed out, including some random free stuff given to his family by other card collectors!

Josh also discussed some of the cards he picked up, as well as some of Micah’s best pickups.

Finally, he shared some tips and suggestions that should help others who might be thinking of going in 2025.

We also discuss the 10 most-graded cards according to GemRate.com during the month of July!

There are five basketball cards atop the list, with just a couple baseball and a couple football cards. Can you think of who they might be?

We move on to list the best rookie cards of all four sports from the year 1997! Of the 12 great rookies we listed, nine of them are in their respective sports’ Halls of Fame!

Finally, we look over all the things happening across the Happy Hoppy Sports Card world, including our current giveaways (like a graded card carrying case from OnlyGreats.com), our most popular videos, articles, and podcasts from the month of July!

Happy Hobby! We talk about sports card collecting hoping to help collectors working with a limited budget. With a positive, family friendly mindset, we discuss hobby news and recent releases, while also looking back and talking about vintage cards and players from decades past. It's like opening a pack of cards with 11 with different sports card subjects!
This podcast is essentially the read-out-loud version of the "Happy Hobby Newsletter," published every other Thursday on Substack.
I’m David Gonos, former Fantasy Sports columnist at CBS Sports, Sports Illustrated and The Athletic. In 2021, I was inducted into the Fantasy Sports Writers Hall of Fame. (No, really, that exists!) I’m also a sports card collector working with a limited budget, so I create content based around just that!
I got my YouTube channel going in 2021, and I’ve been posting two or three videos up each week ever since. It’s a fun, free, festive spot to talk about cards, collecting and … cards. I don’t take myself too seriously, so I beg that you don’t take me seriously either.
We also do a ton of giveaways to subscribers!
