🏈 ⚾ 🏀 HOBBY NEWS: SGC’s TOPPS CHROME $12 GRADING SPECIAL!
SGC President Peter Steinberg announced last week that SGC is doing another Topps Chrome grading special! Any year of Topps Chrome, any product! From Star Wars to the new basketball set, to last year’s Topps Chrome to 2024 Topps Chrome Baseball! That’s pretty sweet!
With a 5-10 business day turnaround!
I have a Bobby Witt Jr. Purple “Rookie Debut” card I’m thinking about sending in, along with some others. Let me know in the comments if you are thinking about sending some in!
PRO TIP: SGC’s shipping fees are $15 for 1-5 cards, then it goes up to $25 for 6-20 cards. What that means is – your average cost for grading rises from $15 each (with shipping included) for five cards up to $16.17 per card if you send in six cards. But if you send in 20 cards, your cost per card, including shipping, drops down to just $13.25 each!

🏈 ⚾ 🏀IF PATRICK IMHOFF BECAME CEO OF FANATICS: #8 of 23
Imhoff breaks down all the moves Fanatics should make, just two years away from when they unify the baseball, football and basketball card licenses in 2026. He shared his first move in our June 20 newsletter, and he’ll continue to share more of these going forward.
Here’s Patrick’s latest move on how he’d do things differently if he were the CEO of Fanatics:
No. 6 – Home Run Challenge Cards
These cards bring some excitement to the game. How fun is it to watch your selected player and hope for that home run? Unfortunately, they also bring some frustration: rainouts and injuries can render these cards worthless.
The first easy solution would be for rainouts and cancellations: If that was the game you selected, you would have the option of selecting the make-up game or just reselecting a new game altogether.
For injuries, you would have two options: Keep the same player for the next year or you would get access to another player on the same team as the one you selected.
Subscribe to Patrick Imhoff’s Substack newsletter and get his “Thrifty Thursday” column! He shares underrated prospects and rookies whose cards we might want to pick up!
🏈 Why We Love Football: A History in 100 Moments
As an Amazon affiliate, I will get a commission if you purchase from these links! Thank you in advance!
This book drops in a couple weeks, and I’ve already preordered mine. If you subscribe to JoeBlogs already, then you know what a great writer Joe Posnanski is, and you likely already ordered a book, too!
If you’re not familiar with Posnanski, he’s been writing for 30 years at places like Sports Illustrated, The Athletic, and NBC Sports, and he wrote “The Baseball 100,” which became a New York Times bestseller!
My man is a great essayist, and “Why We Love Football: A History in 100 Moments” is a collection of awesome essays detailing some great moments in football history. These include chapters on:
Ch. No. 86 - Ditka!
Ch. No. 89 - The Butt Fumble
Ch. No. 92 - When Philadelphia Booed Santa
Ch. No. 96 - Gronk!
Ch. No. 99 - Fantastic Finishes
As I mentioned, the book drops on Sept. 17, 2024, but you can preorder it now on Amazon, both in digital and hardcover form. I got the hardcover because I like to collect cool sports books! Enjoy!
Joe also wrote a book on “Why We Love Baseball: A History in 50 Moments,” which discusses the 50 most memorable moments in baseball, like Willie Mays’ catch, Kirk Gibson’s limping home run, and more. I’ll be getting this in the winter, preparing me for the 2025 baseball season!
Consider becoming a paid subscriber for $6 per month, or $60 per year (20% discount from monthly!). Get into the “Paid Sub” group early and get to know the other subscribers in the chat! As a group, we’ll work to help you improve your collection on a limited budget!
Let us know if you have any ideas for the podcast and/or the newsletter!

Those are some tough rankings to make, football is unique with offense vs defense and then QB vs WR vs RB. I would kick Dak out of the #6 spot though, just not sure he is that good. He is a solid QB, but not a top 10. I would move everybody up and then put either Jordan Love at #10 or TJ Watt at #10, give some love for a guys with more future potential (like Purdy being on there) or a defensive beast with tons of accolades already.
